Digging A Hole

 

A kinetic installation created for Rough Idle, a three-person exhibition curated by Allison Lacher in conjunction with the HATCH artists' program at Chicago Artists Coalition in 2015. ​

Oscillating electric fans caused a white helium balloon and the shovel to which it was tied to sway back and forth irregularly at the center of a mound of earth. Over the course of several weeks, the shovel dug itself a deeper and wider hole.
